Dear Parents / Carers,
I am writing to remind you about home reading at Green Oak.
Children should read their reading book at home to an adult for 20 minutes 5 times a week. This should include talking and asking questions about the book.
This is really important for children in KS2 as they needs lots of practice to develop reading stamina, understand and talk about what they have read.
With your support they can make quick progress and will enjoy reading. Children who enjoy reading do better at school, even in subjects like maths.
By the end of Year 3 children should be reading Lime book band books. After this they will be a ‘free reader’ and choose selected books from the Junior Library and/ or read the book banded project X books. Here is the sequence of the colour bands. Free reading levels are Brown, Grey, Dark Blue and Dark Red.
If you have any concerns about your child’s reading, please see your class teacher. Many thanks for your support.
